Many organisations already own business
intelligence tools but these are essentially Reporting & Analysis tools.
PowerOLAP enhances the value of these tools by providing integrated
budgeting, forecasting and planning.
Introducing Power OLAP
As a technology company Focus BPM uses a number of tools including
Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Analysis Services, Microsoft Excel, Cognos PowerPlay
and PowerOLAP.
PowerOLAP is the cornerstone of our Business Performance Management
solutions because it has the following capabilities:
1. Writeback:
Writeback data to the centralised database to allow “reporting
& analysis” as well as “budgeting and forecasting” for one version of the truth.
2. “bottom-up driver-based modeling”
True “bottom-up driver-based modeling” of the business allows
product/category level budgeting rather than just summarised General Ledger
values thus creating the setting for fast efficient forecasting at the lowest
level and avoiding information islands.
3. “Budgeting by Initiatives:”
Budgeting by initiatives, projects or deliverables to translate
tactics into both financial and non financial measures.
4. Excel Integration:
Complete two way integration between PowerOLAP and Excel utilizes
your investment in training in excel.
5. Complete Integration with SQL Server:
PowerOLAP has complete integration with Microsoft’s SQL Server
as well as many other relational databases including Oracle, Pervasive, Microsoft
Access etc. to allow complete integration between your Accounting system and
PowerOLAP.
6. Enhancing other Business Intelligence tools:
PowerOLAP can be used to enhance other business intelligence
tools. Microsoft Analysis Services is one of the major cube / aggregation engines
available. A number of vendors including Cognos use these cubes to create comprehensive
reports. However, information islands are created because of the lack of proper
Writeback and driver based modeling capabilities of Analysis Services (a full
time rocket scientist is required on site create such complex models). Reporting
can be via Analysis Services cubes but budgeting, forecasting, planning is put
through PowerOLAP.
